Abstract
The article discusses lessons in pandemic preparedness that the U.S. government needs to learn from its handling of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Topics explored include the reported failure of business, public health, and government leaders to prepare for emergencies such as COVID-19, the involvement of healthcare providers, law enforcement personnel, and medical suppliers in the emergency management plan, and the financial assistance needed by health systems and hospitals.
