Abstract
Diagnosis: Epidermolytic ichthyosis The finding of epidermolytic hyperkeratosis (EHK) was seen in both biopsy samples confirming the diagnosis of epidermolytic ichthyosis (EI). After infancy, ichthyosis and hyperkeratosis develop, typically located at sites of friction, such as flexural areas and skin folds.4,6 Our patient started developing mild hyperkeratosis around 10 months of age. Outside of infancy, topical therapies may need to be supplemented with the oral vitamin A analogues, isotretinoin, or acitretin.5 The use of systemic retinoids in EI patients requires a lower dose than used for other types of ichthyosis in order to avoid blistering and skin fragility.
