Abstract
This article describes a case of a 21-year-old male student in Nigeria who presented with symptoms including fever, upper abdomen pain, and yellow discoloration of the eyes. After ruling out other possible diagnoses, the doctors considered leptospirosis as a likely cause due to the patient's exposure to floodwaters and rodents. Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease caused by infection with pathogenic spirochetes and can range from mild to severe, potentially fatal illness. It is often mistaken for other febrile illnesses and is underreported in tropical regions. Early antibiotic therapy is crucial in preventing the progression of the disease. This case report is the first confirmed case of human leptospirosis in Nigeria caused by the serovar Tarassovi. [Extracted from the article]
