Abstract
The article informs that clarithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic with a well-documented antibacterial spectrum that includes Gram-positive cocci and a typical pathogens. Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a common and potentially fatal disease. Most studies showed that "Legionella pneumophila" is among the three most common causes of CAP; furthermore, in patients with more severe symptoms who require a greater degree of hospital care, the percentage of Legionella spp. isolates increases, such that it ranks second only to pneumococcus in studies of the aetiology of severe CAP.
