Abstract
The article discusses the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in surgery and its impact on global healthcare. It highlights the different applications of AI in affluent nations, where it is used for predictive purposes, and in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where it is used to address immediate surgical concerns. The article emphasizes the need for a strategic realignment of AI applications in surgery, including changes in business models, surgical culture, and technology. It also explores the potential of AI in enhancing surgical skill acquisition, improving resource management, and streamlining administrative tasks. The article acknowledges the challenges and barriers to implementing AI in surgical care, such as digital infrastructure inadequacy, data reliability, and the need for trust-building and ethical governance. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of human judgment, empathy, and ethical standards in integrating AI into surgical care. [Extracted from the article]
