Abstract
The progressive cavity pumps are used in artificial lift in petroleum industry to lift high viscosity fluids with or without solid particles, aromatic condensates and tight emulsions as well as heavy crudes. The life time of PC pumps can be maximized, mainly by choosing suitable materials for the stator elastomer and the rotor coating. The purpose of this research work was to examine the wear behaviour of rotorstator couplings two heavy coatings, one traditional chrome plated and one hardened with tungsten carbide spray-process High Velocity Oxygen Flame (HVOF), combined with three types of elastomers on abrasive wear resistance materials. The friction coefficients and the wear were determined under conditions of pure sliding. The experiments were conducted under a elastomer pad samples on ring test configuration. Abrasive wear tests were carried out by using an Baroid Lubricity Tester. All the tests were performed at room temperature (22 ± 2° C), lubricating conditions have been studied for four samples of crude oil - representative of the oil wells, with quartz- suspensions on the abrasive wear of a different couple of material rotor-stator, different test loads and time intervals. Investigations permit the determination of wear parameters and to develop a sequence of materials corresponding to increasingly longer service life time of the pump. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
