Abstract
The article discusses circumstances surrounding an abortive car bomb placed in New York City's Times Square by Faisal Shahzad. Born in Pakistan, Shahzad became a U.S. citizen but made frequent trips back to his homeland as he apparently grew more attracted to radical Islam. U.S. authorities apprehended Shazhad within 53 hours of his failed attempt, and say he may received training from the Taliban in Pakistan. An unnamed Taliban official says he thinks Shahzad's effort will help that organization recruit volunteers.
