Abstract
The article discusses a study on the safety and efficacy of Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter placement for prophylaxis in high-risk adult patients undergoing major spinal reconstruction with long-term follow-up. Medical records of patients who had major spinal reconstruction and received a preoperative prophylactic IVC filter from 2000 to 2007 were reviewed. It indicates that a prophylactic IVC filter can be efficacious with a significant reduction in the incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE).
