Abstract
The article focuses on the development of metagenomic techniques for detection and characterization of fungal diseases based on genomic data and whole genome sequence typing (WGST) database. Topics discussed include the role of environmental exposure and biological contamination in fungal outbreaks, the role of epidemiology in fungal outbreak evaluation, and the use of molecular genotyping. The limitations of WGST are also discussed.
