Abstract
The article discusses that the gliding complex promotes regulated surface exposure of lipoprotein CglB at bacterial focal adhesions, which explains how contractile forces exerted by inner-membrane motors are transduced across the cell envelope to the substratum. Biochemical and genetic analyses reveal that CglB localizes to the cell surface independently of the gliding transducer apparatus and is recruited by the outer-membrane module of the gliding machinery.
