Abstract
This article provides an overview of the field of C–H activation, which involves breaking carbon-hydrogen bonds in organic molecules to form new bonds. It specifically focuses on the use of main group elements, such as boron and phosphorus, as catalysts for these reactions. The article discusses the mechanisms by which these main group systems can cleave C–H bonds and explores specific approaches using boron- and phosphorus-based systems. It also compares these main group processes to C–H activation reactions using late-transition-metal complexes. The article introduces a researcher at Colorado State University who is dedicated to exploring new reactions in heterocyclic chemistry, with a particular emphasis on utilizing main group elements and dearomatized intermediates.
