Abstract
The article presents information on the book "The Captain's Fire: A Novel," by J.S. Marcus. The fragmentary sections yield to huge blocks of text: sentences of hundreds of words, held together not by rhythm or logic but through the sheer adhesiveness of punctuation. The problem with the book lies in its effort to hold as many levels of information and reflection as possible within the frame of a single character's consciousness. By the book's close, the prospect of returning to the U.S. looms.
