Abstract
The article discusses the use of the World Health Organization's (WHO) global invasive bacterial vaccine-preventable diseases (IB-VPD) sentinel hospital surveillance network for estimating meningitis hospitalization rates in the Gambia and Senegal in 2012. The surveillance provides guidance for using pneumococcal conjugate vaccine and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine. Details of the method used for estimating denominator of at-risk children are presented.
