Abstract
The article reports on the development, implementation, and six year outcomes of a lift team that was created in 2000 by the Department of Employee Health Services at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida in an effort to reduce injuries among nurses that were related to the lifting of patients. An overview of the different types of injuries, including strains and sprains, that nurses see as a result of patient lifting, and of the costs that hospitals and nurses face as a result of the injuries, is presented.
