Abstract
Demonstrates that ligand activation of the nuclear receptors LXRα and LXRβ inhibits the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in macrophages. Accomplishment of LXR-dependent repression of MMP-9 through inhibition of the nuclear factor-κΒ pathway rather than direct binding of LXR/RXR heterodimers to the MMP-9 promoter.
