Abstract
The article presents information on a study conducted on the clinician suspicion for detection of alcohol problems in patients, instead of using a screening instrument. In the study, patients were screened for hazardous drinking on the basis of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Consumption (AUDIT-C). The study concluded that clinician suspicion of alcohol problems had high specificity for identifying patients who were having a positive screening test for alcohol problems.
