Abstract
The article reports on digital mammography, Medicare spending, and cancer detection in older women. How political lobbying, industry marketing, and direct-to-consumer advertising forced Medicare to pay for digital mammograms and mammography units is discussed. How Medicare's spending on digital mammography affects the U.S. health-care budget and women's health is also discussed.
