Abstract
Domenico (Meco) Bernoco, a professor emeritus at the University of California-Davis, passed away at the age of 88. He made significant contributions to the field of immunogenetics, particularly in studying the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) of humans and domestic animals. Born in Cherasco, Italy, Meco was known for his love of food and sports, particularly soccer. Throughout his career, he conducted research in various institutions, including the Basel Institute for Immunology in Switzerland and the University of California, Los Angeles. Meco's work focused on HLA research and typing in animals, with notable contributions to the equine and bovine MHC. He mentored several students who went on to have successful careers in genetics and genomics. Meco was also known for his involvement in scientific workshops and his love for gardening, travel, and making his own limoncello. [Extracted from the article]
