Abstract
The article presents a study on the implications of ikaite crystals in Arctic and Antarctic sea ice on the pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) and hydrogen-ion concentration (pH) levels in surface waters. It conducted various examinations using methods such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography and x-ray diffraction. Results suggest that extremely low pCO2 causes melting of the sea ice, while high pH affects surface water pH.
