Abstract
As the author started his career in academic pediatric neurology in 1983, he saw himself as a clinician whose main teaching mission was in the clinic and at the bedside. At that time, his principal goal was to design a pediatric neurology rotation for fourth year medical students and residents along the traditional lines of an inpatient ward rotation and outpatient clinics. The purpose of the observation would be to ensure that the neurologic examination was well done. The written test would provide three things such as motivation for the student to study during the rotation, demonstration that the core knowledge had been mastered and one last chance to review the information that the student or resident needed to take away from the rotation.
