Abstract
The article discusses the factors that contribute to treatment failure gout. It indicates that treatment failure gout results when a physician fails to diagnose and treat gout, there is inadequacy of dosing urate-lowering therapy, and the patient is allergic or intolerant to urate-lowering therapy. Other factors include the inadequacy to respond to adequate dosing of urate-lowering therapy and the failure to comply with prescribed therapy. Moreover, the treatment options for gout include anti-inflammatory agents and urate-lowering therapies such as allopurinol and probenecid.
