Abstract
It was shown that differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) can be used successfully for analytical monitoring of raw material for the production of highly thermally stable aramid fibers. The method was used to analyze mixtures of 5(6)-amino-2-( p-aminophenyl)benzimidazole (DAPBI) and amino-2( p-iminoquinone)benzenediimide (AIPDI), p-phenylenediamine, and the dichlorides of iso- and terephthalic acids. Use of the DSC method enabled the compositions of the crystalline modifications of DAPBI-AIPDI to be monitored continuously and the purity of the monomeric systems to be characterized during production of aromatic polyamides and polyimides.
