Abstract
Superficial angiomyxomas are cutaneous forms of myxomas that are composed of moderately to sparsely cellular angiomyxoid nodules with a proliferation of small blood vessels in the dermis, some involving the subcutis.[1] They are rare gelatinous tumours that appear as circumscribed masses, predominantly on the trunk, lower extremities, head and neck, and arms. Immunohistochemically, the tumour cells were positive for CD34 (Fig. d) and focally positive for alpha-smooth muscle actin (SMA, Fig. e) but negative for oestrogen receptor and progesterone receptor. Differential diagnosis of superficial angiomyxomas includes dermal nerve sheath myxoma, deep aggressive angiomyxoma, low-grade myxofibrosarcoma, cellular angiofibroma, angiomyofibroblastoma, neurothekeoma, myxoid neurofibroma and myxoid smooth muscle tumour.
