Abstract
This article discusses a case report of a patient with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) who had active ileitis, a condition characterized by inflammation of the ileum. The patient's abdominal symptoms were resistant to colchicine treatment, a common medication for FMF, but successfully treated with canakinumab, an anti-interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) monoclonal antibody. The article highlights the association between FMF and gastrointestinal involvement, and suggests that endoscopy should be considered for patients with FMF who have persistent abdominal symptoms. Further studies are needed to determine the similarities and differences between FMF and enterocolitis, and those with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and MEFV variants. [Extracted from the article]
