Abstract
Presents observations about a recent census in China which confirms that the population is more than one billion despite the efforts of the government to curb the birth rate. How at least 80 percent of the population of China lives in the rural areas of the country; Impact of the collective agriculture system in China after the Communist revolution on the economic incentives associated with farm work for families; Reference to the changes in the political structure which occurred in China following the death of dictator Mao Zedong; How rising birth rates threaten to reduce the amount of natural resources in China; Potential for China to expand its industry and its output of energy; Consideration of the social and political factors which fuel the government plight to limit population growth.
