Abstract
The article focuses on the use of eReferral, a Web-based electronic referral systems, in the practice of primary care clinicians in San Francisco, California. It states that referrals for primary care in the U.S. are usually made by telephone, fax, or paper. It mentions that University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and San Francisco General Hospital were the developers of the eReferral which are integrated in the electronic health record in the hospital. It explores how referral for specialty care is made through the use of eReferral. It also discusses the benefits of the implementation of eReferral in which it says that primary care clinicians reported that eReferral had improved the primary care.
