Abstract
The article discusses strengths and weaknesses of benchmarking and describe how it can be applied in intensive care units (ICUs.) It mentions evaluation of lengths of ICU stay (LOS) and unplanned (and early) readmission rates. It also discusses analysis of short-term survival to an assessment of post-ICU medium- and long-term quality of life.
