Abstract
The article presents a study which aims to assess the effect of prolonged continuous wakefulness on the clinical performance of the residents under controlled experimental conditions. High-fidelity patient simulation was used in evaluating the residents' performance during 26 hours of continuous wakefulness at four time points. Results show that clinical performance of medical residents in the management of a simulated critically ill patient deteriorates during prolonged continuous wakefulness.
