Abstract
India is the greatest peasant nation still remaining on Earth, with 43 percent of its population in agriculture. In France, once the greatest peasant country in Europe, the percentage of people in agriculture out of total employment in 1950 was 23 percent and only 3 percent in 2019. Modern "scientific" farming, combined with massive land accumulations and capital intensification, displaced peasants everywhere. Peasants have fought their wars: the decimated youth of France in 1918 was a peasant youth, for peasants historically were always the first to be put in the front lines. [Extracted from the article]
