Abstract
The article focuses on a study that estimated the risk of micro- and nanoplastic migration via an infused parenteral nutrition circuit for premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). It describes the researchers' use of an ex vivo experimental setup mimicking the clinical application as used in the NICU of the Antwerp University Hospital in Belgium. It discusses the implications of the results for the risk of exposure to microplastics leaching from intravenous lines.
