Abstract
The article evaluates factors associated with increased hospital charges for hysterectomy with specific attention to differences based on surgical technique. Blood loss and operative time were strongly associated with higher charges for hysterectomy. Other factors associated with higher charges were postoperative fever, increasing length of hospitalization, the use of prophylactic antibiotics and the laparoscopic surgical technique compared with vaginal hysterectomy.
