Abstract
The article profiles the life of Franz Jägerstätter, a farmer from St. Radegund, Austria who was named an authentic martyr by Pope Benedict XVI in June 2007 for his refusal to serve under Adolf Hitler. Jägerstätter, who is considered as the only layman who was executed as a conscientious objector, will be beatified on October 26, 2007 in Linz, Austria.
