Abstract
The author reflects on how several authors are describing fewer beetles in online checklists of species names as part of the Catalogue of Life (CoL) and World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS). Topics discussed include incomplete and nomenclatural errors of beetles included in CoL, use of CoL by researchers to list all species on Earth, and species description varying between taxa and time.
