Abstract
The book's main contribution is its detailed account of the domestic debate on economic reforms between the gradualist reformers and rapid reformers in the 1980s, as well as tracing the intellectual antecedents of both groups. The package reformers were joined by foreign advisors, most prominently the Eastern European reformers W. Brus, Ota Sik, and Janos Kornai, as well as the World Bank - some of the unlikely partners discussed in Julian Gewirtz's book. [Extracted from the article]
