Abstract
The changing and adapting of preexisting methods of craft production can be influenced by and may influence the social organization of those involved. This study looks at the role that weaving played in the lives of two different groups of women in Oman. The article draws on an ethnographic case study carried out in Oman between 1984 and 1991. It explores how the histories and social relations of the groups and individuals involved informed the way they responded to change. Three important aspects emerged in regard to weaving traditions, social organization, and new opportunities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
