Abstract
This document is a letter published in the journal Intensive Care Medicine Experimental. The letter discusses a study conducted on patients with sepsis and underlying hematological malignancy. The study aimed to determine if there are defects in monocyte and lymphocyte function in these patients. The researchers found that compared to non-hematology patients, hematological patients had lower levels of neutrophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes. They also observed impaired monocyte phagocytosis and decreased release of certain cytokines in response to stimulation. The findings suggest that there is immune dysfunction in monocytes and lymphocytes in hematological patients with sepsis, which may have implications for individualized sepsis treatment.
