Https://doi.org/10.1093/ced/llac005 Dear Editor, Hats aid in reducing exposure to both direct and diffuse ultraviolet (UV) light, but hats are of mixed styles and the resultant sun-protection value is variable. The UK legislative standards specify a brim width of 7 cm and recommend only two styles of hat (a wide-brimmed hat and a Legionnaire-style hat) labelled with a mandatory UPF value of 50 (Figures 1 and 2).
