Abstract
This letter is a response to an article published in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine about the medical management of benign ureteral obstruction in cats. The authors of the letter take issue with the statements made in the article regarding the standard of care for surgical treatment of ureteral obstruction in cats. They argue that the use of subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) devices is not supported by the current literature and that surgical techniques using natural tissues should be prioritized. They also highlight the high complication rates associated with SUB devices and the financial commitment required for their long-term maintenance. The authors suggest that pain management should be taken into consideration when making treatment recommendations for cats with ureteral stones. [Extracted from the article]
