Abstract
The article focuses on a double-blind placebo-controlled study of emtricitabine in chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV). The author points out that emtricitabine is a nucleoside analog treatment for HIV with clinical activity against HBV. The details of the experimental design is presented. Significantly, the safety profile of emtricitabine during treatment is similar to that of placebo. The author concluded that the emtricitabine treatment resulted in significant histologic, virologic, and biochemical improvement.
