Abstract
The article presents a study which examined the association of smoking with autoantibody production in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients, unaffected first-degree relatives (FDR) of individuals with SLE or unaffected, unrelated controls. The researchers gathered demographic, environmental, clinical, and therapeutic data by questionnaire on 1242 SLE patients, 981 FDR, and 946 controls. Results showed that smoking was related to being positive for autoantibody in the subjects with SLE.
