Abstract
This article explores the relationship between red blood cell (RBC) senescence and vascular function in patients with hereditary spherocytosis (HS), a condition characterized by abnormal RBC structure. The study compares HS patients with and without splenectomy to a control group, examining vascular function, RBC rheology, and RBC senescence markers. The findings suggest that splenectomy may be associated with an increased risk of vascular events in HS patients. The study provides valuable insights into the pathophysiology of HS and its impact on vascular health. [Extracted from the article]
