Abstract
The article looks at a study regarding the risk of prophylactic surgery in BRCA1/BRCA2 mutation carriers and reasons for risk-reducing surgery which avoid living distressing events experienced within the family in the past. It mentions risk-reducing mastectomy and salpingo-oophorectomy and decision regarding the procedure and that they would repeat it to reduce their cancer risk. It also mentions negative emotional and psychosocial implications linked to self-perceived discouraging attempts.
