This section presents summaries of research studies published in several medical journals. They include a study which found an increased risk of developing cancer among people admitted to hospital for type 2 diabetes in Sweden. Another study compared 20 patients with gurgling breath sounds heard during quiet breathing or speech with 60 patients without gurgling breath sounds. Surveys done by the World Health Organization found that people with serious mental illness earn on average a third less than median earnings.
