Ambulatory Patient Unit is a distinct Department of Tzaneio General Hospital of Piraeus. Given that the above hospital accepts a large number of patients, Ambulatory Patient Unit functions as a "filter"or "gatekeeping" for a total of patients, contributing to the decongestion of first-line Emergency Departments. Its function also contributes to the proper direction of patients to the above Departments (screening function) and, finally, to the secondary prevention of chronic diseases. During the first two years of function, its role seems quite promising for the overall improvement of health care services of Tzaneio General Hospital. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
