Abstract
In addition to initiating immune and inflammatory responses, these signals engage numerous transport proteins (including two pore domain K SP + sp (K2P) channels and Trpm5 channels), enhancing mucociliary clearance crucial to host defense mechanisms. Their model interweaves actions of the Na SP + sp /K SP + sp -ATPase, NHE1, the Na SP + sp -HCO SB 3 sb SP - sp cotransporter 1 (NBCn1), Na SP + sp -coupled glucose and amino acid transporters, the epithelial Na SP + sp channel (ENaC), and voltage-gated sodium channels (i.e. Na SB V sb 1.5). In biological membranes, channels and transporters underlie essential processes that both mediate and impact crucial communications between the intracellular and extracellular milieus.
