Abstract
The article focuses on epidemiology capacity assessments (ECAs) in state and territorial public health departments in the U.S., conducted by the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) during 2001-2009. The goal of the ECAs was to enumerate the state-level epidemiology workforce and determine whether it had varied since 2009 due to changes in funding and to estimate the number of epidemiologists in local health departments. Commonly used means of reducing spending are cited.
