Abstract
The article explores the energy balance observations of the large surface meltwater discharge from Kangerlussuaq sector of Greenland ice sheet during record-warm year 2010. The surface energy balance calculations using calibrated MODIS-derived albedo and proglacial river gauging measurements had shown that the largest melt excess can be attributed to high atmospheric temperatures alone. The authors further note the enhancement of any melt response driven by frequent high-magnitude melt years.
