Abstract
The article discusses the study that confirms whether clinical data on diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia predict who will develop severe disease. The study involves 1,776 consecutive patients diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia in a single emergency department. It will develop a clinical prediction rule that identifies patients in whom severe diseases will develop septic shock, sepsis and disease requiring mechanical ventilation. Moreover, this scoring system has confirmed that the higher the score, the greater the percentage of patients in whom severe diseases developed.
