Abstract
The article reports on the challenges faced by a U.S. army recruiter trying to enlist expatriates from Iraq into a National Guard linguistics program. Himself an Iraqi immigrant to the U.S., he speaks fluent Arabic, a skill highly sought after by the military. He knows that other immigrants he might recruit to the program will encounter hardships at boot camp, just as he did, but he expresses that he has gained confidence in the ability of Iraqis and U.S. soldiers to be open to new perspectives.
