The article focuses on the work of Sheik Reda Shata, the imam of the Bay Ridge mosque in Brooklyn, New York. The author focuses on male and female relationships among Muslims in America. The author reviews how many Muslims believe that it is forbidden for an unmarried man and woman to meet in private. It is suggested that Shata plays the role of organizing meetings between single people, where in predominantly Muslim countries such arrangements are made by a wider network or family and friends.
